So today marked the end of my third week of physical therapy. I believe I’m starting to make some noticeable progress, but to say I’m frustrated would probably be an understatement. I still have times where the pain is almost more than I can stand, and I don’t have the range of motion anywhere close to what I’d like. But I know that at some point, hopefully, the pain will subside and I’ll get most of, if not all of, my motion back.
It’s not that I’m not thankful for the gains I am making, there just isn’t that huge leap forward I’ve been wishing for. My cousin Charlie used to say “wish in one hand and shit in the other and see which one gets the fullest” so maybe wishing isn’t the best idea and it certainly isn’t working as I’d hoped.
You see, if you haven’t already figured it out, I’m not a very patient person. I like instant results. I like looking up how a show or movie is going to end before I watch it. I like spoilers. I google everything, and I mean everything. I know that’s probably not the the smartest thing to do, it kinda takes the mystery out of life. But honestly mystery scares the hell out of me.
This time the story is still being written and I don’t like it. I can’t find it on google or find a book with the same ending or ask someone smarter than me and get the answer. Oh sure I can look up people that have had the same procedure as me. Trust me, there’s a thousand message boards with thousands of stories. The problem is, we’re all different, we all heal different, we all have different time frames for recovery. Even the examples I do find really don’t help. So I guess I’ll just have to wait and see how this all works out and maybe learn a little more patience.
FYI my physical therapist is amazing. He really is very knowledgeable and takes time to get it right. He’s super friendly and that makes it easier to want to go. And in his absence this week (he’s on vacation), the therapist he suggested fill in has been really good as well, and also super friendly (must be in the training or something or maybe I’m just lucky). So thank you to them. I am most grateful.
I probably won’t post again about this subject until after I go back to the doctor. That’s in a couple weeks, so stay tuned.
